Bald Mountain HMA

​The Bald Mountain HMA can be found 45 miles southeast of Battle Mountain, NV, in Lander County. BLM counts the herd including movement from nearby HMAs including South Shoshone and Callaghan HMAs, of which boundaries are shared.
Black Rock Range East-West HMA

​The Black Rock Range East and West HMAs can be found 70 miles northwest of Winnemucca and 40 miles southwest of Denio, NV. Previously known as two separate HMAs, BLM states wild horses move between the two and therefore call it one HMA now.
Blue Wing Mountains HMA
Size: 17,913 acres
Number of wild horses the BLM deems appropriate for the herd area is 27-36 and the number of burros is 17-28

​The Blue Wing Mountains HMA can be found 65 miles northeast of Reno, NV, in western Pershing County. 
Butler Basin Wild Horse Territory
Size: 52,500 acres
Number of wild horses the Forest Service and BLM deem appropriate is 60 -100

Located in Nevada approximately 40 miles southwest of Eureka. The territory consists of 52,500 acres of National Forest land in the northern portion of the Monitor Mountain Range. It has been observed and documented that wild horses migrate freely between the Butler Basin WHT and Seven Mile HMA.  The two areas are managed for a combined appropriate management level of 60-100 horses. ​The Little Owyhee HMA can be found 40 miles northeast of Winnemucca, NV, in eastern Humboldt and western Elko counties. This HMA is part of the Owyhee Complex which also includes the Little Humboldt, Owyhee, Rock Creek, and Snowstorm HMAs.
Marietta Wild Burro Range

​The Marietta Wild Burro Range can be found south of Hwy 95 near the California border, between the Garfield Flat and Montgomery Pass HMAs.
Maverick-Medicine HMA

​The Maverick-Medicine HMA can be found 75 miles southeast of Elko, NV. It is bordered on the west by the Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge and on the east by the Cherry Creek Mountains. Look for High Bald Peak which is within the HMA.
McGavin Peak Wild Horse Territory
Size: 3,860 acres of Forest Service land, 1,860 acres of Bureau of Land Management land, and 10,325 acres of private land

Montezuma Peak HMA

Number of wild horses and burros the BLM deems appropriate for the herd area is zero. This herd area was zeroed out in 1996 but BLM states a few wild horses and burros remain. The list the horses at 2-4 and the burros at 6-10.

​The McGee Mountain HMA can be found west of Goldfield, NV.
Muddy Mountains HMA

​The Muddy Mountains HMA can be found 40 miles east of Las Vegas, NV. This herd is jointly managed by the NPS.
Nevada Wild Horse Range HMA
Size: 1,301,637 acres

​The Nevada Wild Horse Range HMA is off-limits to the public as it is contained within the Nellis Air Force Range.
New Pass-Ravenswood HMA
Size: 285,878 acres
Number of wild horses the BLM deems appropriate for the herd area is 340-566. BLM states there are some curlies within the herd.

​The McGee Mountain HMA can be found 35 miles northwest of Austin, NV, in Lander county.
North Monitor HMA
Size: 11,512 acres
Number of wild horses or burros (it is not specified) the BLM deems appropriate for the herd area is 6-8

​The North Monitor HMA is in the Battle Mountain District in central Nevada, south of Hwy 50 and east of the Fish Creek HMA.
North Stillwater HMA
Size: 178,927 acres

​The North Stillwater HMA is within the Stillwater Mountain Range, southeast of I-80 and north of Hwy 50 in central west Nevada. It is near the Tobin Range and Augusta Mountains HMAs.
Northumberland Wild Horse Territory

Nut Mountain Herd Management Area

Located in northwest Nevada, northern Washoe County, NV approximately 40 miles east of Cedarville, CA. South of the Bitner HMA, north of the High Rock HMA, and west of the Wall Canyon HMA.
Owyhee HMA
Size: 339,103 acres
Number of wild horses the BLM deems appropriate for the herd area is 139-231

​The Owyhee HMA Complex is in north central Nevada on the Idaho border, north of I-80 and east of Hwy 95. This HMA is part of the Owyhee Complex which also includes the Little Owyhee, Little Humboldt, Rock Creek, and Snowstorm HMAs.
Palmetto HMA
Size: 118,273 acres
Number of wild horses the BLM deems appropriate for the herd area is 46-76 though the 2023 population count is just 25. BLM states they don't know why the population has diminished; it could either be natural predation or they have migrated to a nearby herd area.

​The Palmetto HMA is north and west of the town of Lida, NV in Esmeralda county. It is west of Hwy 95 near the California border, adjacent to the Silver Peak and Montezuma Peak HMAs.
Pancake HMA Complex
Size: 849,922 acres
Number of wild horses the BLM deems appropriate for the herd area is 240-493

​The Pancake HMA Complex is 30 miles west of Ely, NV or 80 miles northeast of Tonopah, in White Pine and Nye counties. The complex consists of Sands Springs West, Jakes Wash HA (herd area), and the Monte Cristo Wild Horse Territory. Jakes Wash and Monte Cristo are both considered zeroed out of horses. 
Paradise Peak Wild Horse Territory
Size: 14,700 acres
Number of wild horses the BLM deems appropriate for the herd area is 240-493

Located in Nevada approximately 60 miles northwest of Tonopah in the southeast portion of the Paradise Mountain Range. Read more here. 
Paymaster HMA
Size: 100,590 acres
Number of wild horses the BLM deems appropriate for the herd area is 23-38

​The Paymaster HMA is 10 miles west of Tonopah, NV. According to BLM, 2/3rds of the habitat is for bighorn sheep and the horses can only be found in a small portion of the area. 
Pilot Mountain HMA
Size: 477,133 acres
Number of wild horses the BLM deems appropriate for the herd area is 249-415

​The Pilot Mountain HMA is near the junction for Hwy 95 and Hwy 6 in southwest Nevada. Nearby HMAs include Paymaster, Silver Peak, and Garfield Flat. 
Pine Nut Mountains HMA
Size: 104,316 acres
Number of wild horses the BLM deems appropriate for the herd area is 118-179
​The Pine Nut Mountains HMA (formerly known as Nut Mountain) is east/northeast of Minden, NV. The BLM lists the wrong location on their website as the herd has been pushed way south of the original herd area. Take Hwy 395 to Minden, head east into the foothills east of East Valley Rd and east/northeast of Fish Springs Rd. This herd is often found within the ever expanding neighborhood and you will see water troughs that volunteers keep full. The main roads are not too bad, though they are dirt/gravel and there are many smaller roads/two-tracks that you can take with a truck and good tires.  
Red Rock HMA
Size: 161,969 acres
Number of wild horses the BLM deems appropriate for the herd area is 16-27 and wild burros is 29-49

​The Red Rock HMA is 20 miles west of Las Vegas, NV, in Clark County.
Reveille HMA
Size: 105,499 acres

Roberts Mountain HMA

​The Snow Storm Mountains HMA is 45 miles northeast of Winnemucca, NV. BLM states that the wild horses tend to stay away from the western portion of the HMA near the Twin Peaks mine, which contains significant mining  and exploration activity.
